Sweden is a pleasant country. The country side and the human beings seem to be at ease. It is simply perfect for enjoyable motorbike tours. The traffic on Sweden’s roads and motorways is rather less compared to the European mainland. You should always be watchful of the four-legged road user. Elks and deer are no rarity on the roads!
Schonen is Sweden’s most southern country side. It has lush green meadows, small castles and a wonderful coast. The climate is mild enough to even grow wine.
Gothenburg is worth to take a break in. It is indeed a vibrating metropolis by the sea, but at the same time it has conserved the charms of a cozy small town. North of Gothenburg a shore country side called Bohuslän is located. It is known for its idyllic fishing villages, the fresh sea food and the historic rock paintings.
Smaland is nature paradise. Beside the world famous glass blowing companies it also offers historical estates with huge gardens. You can also go on an elk safari here - naturally on foot.
You will do best to conquer Stockholm on foot as well. The city is situated on top of 14 islands where the Mälaren flows into the sea. Splendid historical buildings, numerous green spots and a vibrating city center await your discovery spree.
Further in the interior lay Västergötland and Dalsland – these are areas where one will find channels and thousands of lakes. Vänern, the largest lake is 5540 square kilometers.
Whoever is traveling in the summer should make sure to bring along a good protection against mosquitoes!
Fish certainly tops the Swedish menu. For example herring or smoked salmon. Typical Swedish cuisines are smoked reindeer meat and köttbullar (small meatballs). As sweet dessert we would like to recommends Semlor (yeast pastry with marzipan and cream).
Please note: Restaurants in Sweden are very expensive! Only people older than 20 years of age are allowed to consume and buy alcohol.
Some geography:
The Kingdom of Sweden is 450,000 square kilometer and therefore the fifth-biggest country in Europe. Here live close to 9 million inhabitants. Recognized minorities are the Finns in the northeast of the country (along the Finnish border) and the Lapps (Samen). Language of the country is Swedish. Nearly 90 % of the Swedes are Protestants. The Swedes celebrate their national holiday on June 6th. |
