Morocco - that are idyllic sand beaches bordering the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, oriental looking towns and the majestically Atlas Mountains. Only the 13 km long Strait of Gibraltar separates this country from Europe. Most people live along the shore of the land. Endless miles of sand beaches draw also most of the vacationers. Olive’s groves and forests of cork oaks grow in the hinterland; fruit and vegetable thrive thanks to artificial irrigation.

Each of larger towns has its own Medina. It is an ancient quarter at which one feels surrounded by the Orient and where haggling over tempting offers becomes a pleasure. Towns like Rabat, Casablanca or Marrakech can be very hectic. But upcountry one is attracted by peaceful and gorgeous oases. Rides to isolated Berber-villages, or on plateaus and through valleys of the high Atlas Mountains or of the Rif- mountain range are a pure pleasure. It is a historical route, too, because these roads are usually build atop old caravan routes, which once used to connect the shore with the Sahara and black Africa.

In the culinary sense Morocco is fascinating as well. Harira (rich soup), Bastilla (pasty with pigeon’s meat), Tajine (stew from chicken, plums, almonds and vegetables) and naturally Couscous, the African national dish (millet or wheat semolina) are recommendable. Morocco is also the perfect country to thoroughly experience your KTM Adventure across fantastic tracks of sand and gravel.

Some geography:
About 30 million inhabitants live at Morocco. Arabic is the language of the country, regionally some different tongue of Berber is spoken. French is business- and educational language. Most of the Moroccans are Moslems. Since 1956 the kingdom is independent. The national holiday is celebrated on July 30th. At that day in 1999, king Mahomet VI. claimed his throne.

Black & white:
At the Rif-mountain range drug dealer could hinder your ride. Don’t let them put anything into your pocket! The possession of drugs is punished with prolonged stays in prison and high fines
