Hungary is more than Budapest, Balaton and Pusta. But even these three destinations contribute to it as a desired traveling country.

West of the Danube for example extends Transdanubien. Pécs is a wonderful town with Turkish inheritance. At the border to Austria Györ invites for a visit with its beautiful old part of town, the same is true for Sopron. At the border to Slovakia one finds the mysterious caves system of Aggtelek, and Hortobgy, a national park, is located in the legendary Pusta.

For decades Budapest has carried the surname "Paris of the east". The historical center is located on the Budaer side at the right bank of the Danube. Opposite, on the Pest side, the life vibrates with millions of inhabitants. Budapest’s particular flair comes from its 20 spas and open air baths. You ought to visit at least one and you should let your worn bones rest there for a while. From Budapest it is a stone’s throw to the Danube knee; a great area for relaxing tours on the motorbike.

The Balaton is said to be Europe’s largest bath tub. After all the Plattensee with its nearly 600 square kilometers is the biggest sweat water lake in Western and Middle Europe. It owes its nicknames to the very warm water during the summer. 25 - 27 °C water temperatures are no objective for cooling. All the same or just because of it there romp thousands of vacationers through the numerous small bathing resorts every year.

Hungary is celebrated for its spicy kitchen. National dish is Pörkölt (kettle goulash); one gets just as hot when consuming Gulyás (spicy potato soup) or chili chicken. Delicious are also desserts like Palacsinta (Palatschinken) or Rètes (strudel). Hungarians usually prefer wine, no matter what time of the day. Very well known is the Tokajer.

Some geography:
Hungary stretches over an area of 93,000 square kilometers and has about 10 million inhabitants. Language of the country is Hungarian. About half of the inhabitants are Catholics; the other half belongs to several diverse beliefs respectively none at all.

On August 20th the Hungarians celebrate their official national holiday. It is the celebration of the country’s founder and the first Hungarian king, Stephan the saint. A further holiday is celebrated on October 23rd. On that day it is remembered of the dead during the national uprising in 1956 as well as the proclamation of the Hungarian Republic in 1989.
