Canada is the embodiment of a vastness of land. Only eleven percent of the country is developed. The Canadians live nearly exclusive in an up to 200 km girdle along the frontier to the USA. One can follow the roads for thousands of kilometers. You pass by lakes, rivers and woods. No border disturbs the trip. Oftentimes crossings are the only possibility to meet other human beings; there they get gas or go shopping. Even if one reaches a village after hundreds of kilometers the moment one has passed it the wilderness starts anew. Areas with ten inhabitants per square kilometer are sometimes considered to be thickly settled.

Even the spectacular national parks are due to their size never as crowded, as similar reservations in Europe. In the west Banff and Yoho are embedded into the Rocky Mountains, in the east one finds Forillon (Québec) and Terra Nova (Newfoundland).

Just like a counterpoint Canada’s metropolises are situated within the gigantic vacations of the land. No matter, whether talking about Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary or Montréal – they all are genuine metropolises. Vancouver is considered one of the most beautiful towns of Canada surely owing to its location between Pacific and Coast Mountains. At the same time Canada is the gateway to Asia. Toronto is a town with an abundance of banks and the industrial motor of the country. Here live (incredible!) immigrants from more than 100 different countries. Montréal is (right behind Paris) the largest French-speaking town in the world. Québec city is surely a European metropolis; it owns an interlocking old part of town and the only city wall in all of North America.

Canada’s cuisine is (besides Fast food) dominated from the special foods of each respective region. Fish and seafood dominate on the coast; wheat products and meat come from the central parts of the country. In the east the restaurants predominantly offer French cooking. In the west one can taste the European and Asian influences. Alcohol can only be bought at special shops or at restaurants, which own a permission to serve alcohol. On the menu one will find beverages from all around the world. Rye whiskey is typical Canadian.

Some geography:
Canada stretches over an area of nearly 10 million square kilometers and has only about 31 million inhabitants. Languages of the country are French (in Québec) and English (in the "remainder"). Close to half of the Canadians belong to the Roman-Catholic church, about 36% are Protestants. Other religions are minorities. The Canadians celebrate their national holiday on July 1st, Canada Day.
