100 HOOF = app. 0.365 €
1 € = app. 273.87 HOOF
Foreign currencies can be exchanged at hotels, banks, at airports and railway stations. One will need to keep the exchange receipts. Do not exchange money on the black market!
Credit cards: Eurocard, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club
Traveller’s cheques (if possible in US-Dollars or Euro) will be accepted at banks and at numerous businesses.
One can withdraw Forint with an EC-card and the pin-number at ATMs. Many businesses accept the EC-card with the Maestro-symbol.
The traveler is allowed to import and export Forint up to a maximum sum of 200,000 HOOF; all of it needs to be declared. One can import foreign currency at an unlimited amount, however anything above the value of 50,000 HOOF needs to be declared.
Credit cards are only accepted by large gas stations of international companies.
